The Gulfstream G550 is a heavy, long range business jet that received its FAA type certificate in 2003. It is sometimes also known as the GV-SP. Over 550 have been produced, including the Gulfstream G500 which has a lower fuel capacity and reduced range. The G550 replaced the Gulfstream V, and has improved aerodynamics leading to an increased range and fuel efficiency. It is the most successful model in Gulfstream history.
Depending on its configuration, the G550 can transport up to 19 passengers or can have sleeping for 8 people. There are options to have up to four distinct living areas, including a dedicated crew rest area, a private stateroom, conference area and entertainment space
The cabin has 14 Gulfstream signature oval windows, providing plenty of natural light along its 43 ft 11 in (13.39m) length, and the low-altitude cabin pressure helps to keep passengers refreshed during their journey. The cabin height is 6 ft 2 in and the width is 7 ft 4 in, while there is 170 cu ft (4.81 cu m) of baggage space.
With a top speed of mach 0.885, and a high speed cruise of mach 0.85, the G550 has set more than 50 city-pair speed records. It can fly 6,750 nautical miles (12,501 kilometers) nonstop, meaning city pairs such as Shanghai to Los Angeles, New York to Dubai or London to Tokyo or to Los Angeles are all possible. An example range map is shown below, starting from Teterboro (TEB).
The plane is powered by two Rolls-Royce BR710 C4-11 engines, while the cockpit has a PlaneView flight deck with a Head-Up Display (HUD) and Enhanced Vision System (EVS) to improve the pilot's situational awareness.
The list price of a new G550 is currently about $61.5m depending on the configuration, and it's worth negotiating for discounts from this list pricing. Average asking prices for one built in 2005-2006, is in the range $18m to $21m. Newer models that are 5 to 6 years old, 2012 to 2013 vintage, are typically in the range of $28m to $31m. Prices on preowned G550s vary depending on the total airframe and engine hours, maintenance, record keeping and overall condition.
The table below shows the "Direct Mission Costs" for typical missions of 1,000 nm, 3,000 nm and 6,000 nm. Of particular note, the fuel consumption varies significantly between take-off and cruise. On the other hand, longer missions require much more fuel on board, so take-off weight is much higher, requiring a higher fuel burn. The table includes a bundling of fuel consumed, maintenance labor, parts and reserve costs (Variable Costs), apportioned to the actual flight time for the mission length. The fuel price used for this analysis is based on an average price of $5.00 per gallon, and the flights are assumed to have 8 passengers and 4 crew. The fuel consumption figure accounts for taxi, takeoff, climb, cruise, descent, and landing.
These costs must be borne by a flight department irrespective of the level of aircraft utilization. Included in here are salaries for flight crew, annual training, hull insurance cost computed by multiplying a liability factor per $100 of hull insurance; and liability insurance based on $25m in coverage.
The interactive tool below lets you change the fuel price per gallon and the hours flown to see the effects on the operating costs for the G550. You can also put in your own airport to see the range of the G550 from your home base.

The Stik Boat design is a hybrid of a kayak, skiff, and bass boat with a streamlined hull. The result is an entirely new fishing experience, with the stability to stand and fish from anywhere on the deck, the dimensions to go where no other boats can, and the power to make its push-button ignition and joystick a ton of fun to ride.
Oprah Winfrey is perhaps best known for being the host of one of the most-watched television talk shows The Oprah Winfrey Show, which ran for 25 years and regularly reached 50 million viewers. The ability to make overnight successes of individuals and businesses endorsed on her show became known as the Oprah Effect and is testament to her influence on popular culture.
It is safe to say Elon Musk is a big fan of travel as the founder of Tesla Motors and SpaceX. Therefore, it is no surprise that he also owns a couple of jets; a Gulfstream G550 and G650ER. The PayPal co-founder flies over 240,000 km a year, enough to fly around the earth more than 6 times.
His G550, purchased in 2020, cost $14 million and can accommodate 17 passengers and be arranged into a sleeping configuration. The Gulfstream G650ER, acquired in 2016 for $70 million, has the longest range in its category at 13,990 km. The ER stands for Extended Range and adds 9260 km to the G650 version.
Its spacious cabin is designed to be the quietest in business aviation. Sixteen panoramic oval windows flood the cabin with natural light and stunning views. It is designed to provide the perfect place for Bezos to eat, sleep and work when flying across the globe.

As the table shows the G500 will offer many improvements over the G450: faster speed, longer range, larger cabin, higher altitude (which allows you to fly over bad weather), more baggage space and even lower pressure in the cabin (which reduces effects of jet lag).Gulfstream has said that the G500 is not a replacement to the G450 and that it will keep selling and building G450s. This is probably more about reassuring people waiting for G450s now, as it is hard to see why many customers looking for an new aircraft from 2018 onwards would chose a G450 over a brand new G500. It is worth remembering that if you order a new G550 today you will have to wait until about 2016 for delivery.
The private jet is the fastest mode of transport. These luxurious planes allow you to move in no time in the most absolute comfort. There are many business jets, but which one is the fastest in the world?
Private jets are relatively light planes, most of them have a fuselage made of aluminum and composite materials. This weight advantage makes them both very fast and low in emissions compared to airliners.
Business jets are also equipped with exceptionally powerful engines. The three engine manufacturers General Electric, Pratt & Whitney and Rolls Royce compete in ingenuity to design ever more powerful and efficient engines. This partly explains why private jets have one of the highest power-to-weight ratios in the aviation industry.
60% of private jet flights are transport for professionals on the move. Whether they are business leaders, senior executives, journalists or doctors, the private jet is above all a professional tool that allows them to go quickly.
These professionals who work in a hurry, who have huge responsibilities or who have a very busy schedule, cannot afford to waste a few hours at the airport. Business aviation then emerges as the only means of transport that makes it possible to travel so quickly. This explains the attention private jet manufacturers pay to the power and speed of their planes.
In February 2020, a Boeing 747-200 of the British airline British Airways flew from London to New York in just 4:56 hours, compared to 6:55 hours usually. Storm Ciara raged over the Atlantic that day, and westerly winds of over 400 km/h brought the Boeing to an exceptional speed of 1,100 km/h. This extreme example shows how weather can speed up or slow down a private jet in flight. 041b061a72
